Glean (“the app”) is a document scanner built by TechFoundry. Glean has no backend server — it processes your documents on your device and stores files in your own cloud account. We do not operate servers that receive your documents.
What the app accesses
- Camera. Used only to capture document scans. Images are processed on your device.
- On-device text recognition (OCR). Performed locally on your device. Your document contents are not sent to TechFoundry.
- Sign-in (Apple or Google). You sign in to identify yourself in the app.
- Sign in with Apple: the app receives your name and email address (or Apple’s private relay email, if you choose to hide your email). Apple only provides these on first sign-in; the app caches them on your device to show your account.
- Sign in with Google: the app receives your name, email address, and profile photo.
- Google Drive (optional). Drive is optional for everyone — you can use the app fully without it (scans are kept on your device). If you connect Google Drive, the app uploads the scans you choose to a folder you select, using your own Google account. The app uses the
drive.filescope, which limits access to files the app creates.
What we collect
- Nothing on our servers. TechFoundry does not collect, store, or receive your scans, recognized text, or account data. There is no analytics or tracking SDK in the app.
- On your device: your scanned images, generated PDFs, and a local list of your scans are stored on your device. These remain on your device and are accessible to you (including via the Files app); they are not sent to us.
- In your Google Drive: PDFs you choose to save are stored in your own Drive under the folder you select.
Third-party services
- Sign in with Apple. Governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Sign-In and Google Drive API. Governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. The app’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Data retention & deletion
- Scans and the local library remain on your device until you delete them in the app or uninstall it.
- In the app you can delete individual scans (which also removes the copy from Google Drive) and “Delete account & data,” which removes all local scans, disconnects your account, and revokes the app’s Google access. Files you previously chose to keep in your Google Drive can be removed from Drive directly.
Children
Glean is not directed to children under 13.
